>From the authors of Greg's Buttons, Greg's Browser, and DoubleScroll.
Why wait for eight? Your Mac can have the Copland user experience today!
Just drop Aaron into your Extensions folder, and your Mac will look just
like the Copland screen shots in all the Mac magazines. Aaron gives you
3D Copland-style windows, scroll bars, buttons, folder icons, menus, fonts,
pop-ups, and progress boxes. Aaron is a fat binary for Macs and PowerMacs.
Version 1.1.3 fixes several problems introduced in version 1.1.2, including an
AppleScript-related crash on Power Macs and a few pop-up menu anomalies.

Subject: [*] Binary Pump 2.13; a File Management program
Something nice about System 7.0 is that you can select a whole bunch
of extentions and control panels, and just plop them into the system
folder and the System sorts the files out and puts them in their
correct folders automatically. This is what Binary Pump does, but on
a system wide (or network wide if you have File Sharing on) level.
In addition, Binary Pump can alias or duplicate files to folders, or
send them to applications.
Binary Pump achieves this by associating rules with either folders or
applications. If a file obeys all of a folder's rules, then it's
accepted. Rules are all created within Binary Pump with easy to use
pull down menus. These rules include name, date, location, type,
creator, file contents, and many other file attributes.
Binary Pump also includes utilities for accessing deeply nested
folders without the mess of aliases all over the desktop.
In addition, Binary Pump includes File identification features which
utilize both binary tags and file name extentions to identify files.
It can also decode MacBinary II files.
The archive contains a comprehensive User's Guide in MS Word
format, containing an Index, Table of Contents, Pictures, and more.
Binary Pump is a Fat-Binary.
Shareware: $20
Changes from version 2.12
--added ability to delete files instead of just moving them to the trash.
--added preference to clear log before processing a batch of files.
--minor bug fixes.

This may be more work than you want, but it takes up very little bandwidth.
Open each window, select all (command A), copy (command C) and paste to a
text file (command V), such as MSWord. Just the file names appear in the
new document. If you add an empty folder and name it as the folder header
(such as (space)ABC Corp Folder) it indentifies each window's respective
content. The (space) keeps this folder at the top of the list.
An even quicker way to copy and paste is to place all your folders in one
window, expand each folder (click on all the triangles), select all, copy
and paste as above. Be carefull not to excede the memory of the clipboard.
If you do, break up the list to fit.
Another option is to get a catalogue program that can export its contents
to a text file. I don't know of or use one myself, but I'm sure there are
many. Try the Info-mac Archives. Hope this helps. Jeff

There is a known bug in MS Word 5.1a that causes the program to think
that the system heap is too small to run Word. Contact MS Tech support
and they can fax you a detailed explanation of the bug. Basically, you
need to adjust the system heap by 1 or 2k and the bug will disappear. You
can use a utility like Heap Tool (available at the Info-Mac mirrors) to
adjust the system heap.
As an aside, it's really too bad that MS has not released a patch to fix
this in favor of telling users to downgrade to MS Word 6.x. If you
really want 5.1a, they will send you a copy for free if you purchase the
current version of Word. Just call customer service and ask for the MS
Word 5.1a downgrade. Of the dozen or so customers I have that upgraded to
6.x, all but one office has returned to 5.1a as a more stable and
friendlier program. Unless you do a lot of large document spellchecks or
word counts, 5.1a is by far the better version to use on a daily basis.
If you agree, email MS and tell them. At least they might keep 5.1a alive.

: This sounds more like a SCSI termination problem than anything else. It
: certainly isn't the drive spinning up. Have you added any other external

Subject: Making Official System 7.5 / PowerPC Page-Table Entries.
We're working on a research project which involves adding a couple of
PowerPC chips and a gob of memory to a Power Macintosh via a card which plugs
into the PDS slot on a Power Macintosh 6100. We have software which allows
us to execute code in supervisor mode, using which I can diddle the 601's
block-address translation registers and add entries to its hashed page table.
InitZone successfully sets up a heap/zone in this added memory, I can allo-
cate storage therein, and I can successfully execute code therein.
What I can't do is use the Code Fragment Manager to load a program into
this added memory; GetDiskFragment returns error code -2819, which indicates
a consistency check. I conjecture that something isn't set up correctly
in the MacOS tables.
My questions:
- There's gotta be a MacOS call to make valid and official page-table
entries. Would anybody know what this call is and what its syntax
& semantics are? I would hope that it can be called after boot time.
- Alternatively, would anybody know the "consistency" checks that
GetDiskFragment makes?
Replies only to me, please, since this is so particular a question
that bothering the entire community isn't justified.
Thanks,

I would add to this a request for authors of extensions and cdevs to please
include some info in their blurb about how much RAM their creations require.
Not much, just something like "and for all these wonderful things it does with
your Mac all it needs is 457K of RAM".

Subject: Multiple Screens Question
Hello--
I am running two monitors off my PowerMac 601.
After Dark 3.0 will blank both screens, and a few modules will cover both
monitors. But the "slide show" module will only display my (compressed)
PICTs on the main screen.
Question is: Is there an available module or screen saver that will handle
different slide shows on both screens simultanoeusly? Commercial software
is okay.
Also, are there any special cool things about two screens that only a maven
would know?

Subject: New AGT mirror
What is with the MacGZip compression that the AGT mirror is adding to all
the infomac files?? The files seem to be gz'd on top of being hqx'd and
whatever other compressions is under that(cpt, sea, etc...). Seems kinda
pointless.
It's screwing up using Easyview with Anarchie and ICeTEe/Internet Config.
Anarchie gives me some sort of local file error. I even mapped the .gz
extension in IC. Any suggestions?

Subject: Opening up a duo dock
Here's a question:
I have a duo dock, and I have an ethernet card inside the dock. The card
was put in by my predecessor. The dock has no screw holes, latches or
hinges that can be used to open it up, none that I can see anyway. How do I
get the card out?

Could someone point me to a good review of the two new removable products?
Or give me a first hand account of their relative quality? If demand is
any measure Zip seems to be ahead at least in the lag in ship time by the
mail order folks.
